Pride here means never having to say you are sorry. We are always right and if we apologise we are labled weak. Catering to the opponent's pride to prevent conflict is radical indeed. <br />I think there is a similiar approach in couple-therapy; not necesarily apologising , but bridging gaps by various means, for instance, de-emphasizing the " But I am right and you are wrong !
